Mistakes to Avoid When You Build Your Website

When you are building a website, there are some mistakes that you should avoid making. There are tools to help you get the job done quickly and easily.  These mistakes are things that are going to keep people from staying on your website, and are bad for business.  If you need to make changes once you have made any mistakes think about using some of the following software to help get it done right.

§                      Unreadable Text – The first mistake that you should avoid is text that is unreadable. You should make sure that the text size is comfortable for just about anyone to read, and, when appropriate, that there is an option for resizing the text on your website. This will make it much more comfortable for your visitors.  One of the best tools out there to help with text editing and html coding is also free.  Use NotePad to get your text right on your website.

§                      Forced Video or Music – The second mistake that you should avoid is putting video or music on your website that people are forced to listen to. Give them the option to listen to it instead of forcing it. When visitors have their choices removed, they won’t stay on the website because you are not thinking of their needs.  And when you do add large music files,  transfer them with a FTP software like FileZilla for security and efficiency.

§                      No Contact Information – The third mistake is not having a way for visitors to contact you. You should either have some kind of contact form, a guest book, or even a forum where people can leave comments about your website. Your visitor comments are very important and you should listen to them because the visitors are the ones who are going to hopefully become your customers one day. If they aren’t happy, they are going to go someplace else and buy what you are offering.

When you are creating your website, and need to have secure connections, think about using Putty. To help be more productive use a program like Tight VNC to work from remote locations.   Also, remember to keep your target audience in mind. Make sure that they have everything that they need on your website. Otherwise, you are not going to have a lot of happy visitors to your site and your business will not flourish and be successful. Think of your visitors first and yourself second.
